1861 to the Present: The Prioresses of the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago

A Prioress’s role in our community is essential. She balances stability and growth and ensures all Sisters’s voices are heard. According to St. Benedict, the Prioress is “to hold the place of Christ in the monastery.” (RB 2:2) . Each of the nineteen women who have held this important position for the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago made significant contributions in service to God’s people. The Winter/Spring 2019 issue of Sacro Speco shares a timeline of the women who serve(d) as Prioress. Enjoy the timeline and read more from the latest issue of Sacro Speco from our website here.
