This December, four women in Colorado made their final oblation as Oblates of the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago and the Oblates here in Chicago attended an Advent Retreat here at St. Scholastica Monastery.

Some twenty-five people were in attendance on Sunday, December 4, as four women: Kaley Rose, Phyllis King, Rose Higgs, and Theresa Randall, made their final oblation as Oblates of the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago in Christ the King Church in Pueblo, Colorado. They began with an Oblate meeting and light brunch and then moved to the church for mid-day prayer. The womens' families, as well as many of the Oblates from Colorado, were present as the women promised to follow the Rule of Benedict as their lives will allow them. They were received by Sister Patricia Crowley who was in Pueblo for the ritual. Sister Joan Hentges is the Director of Oblates in Colorado. The group, started nearly two years ago, numbers close to twenty people.

The following Saturday, December 10, ten Oblates gathered with Sisters Benita Coffey and Suzanne Zuercher for an Advent retreat here at St. Scholastica Monastery. The retreat began with the opportunity for Oblates to join the community for Morning Prayer and Eucharist in St. Scholastica Chapel. The retreat allowed the Oblates time for prayer and reflection during this holy season, which is often busy with frantic activities and sounds of all sorts. In periods of reflection, time spent alone in silence, as well as in a group discussion setting, they focused on "Christ's Comings: Past, Present, Future." Many of the Oblates remained with the community for the Vigil of the Third Sunday of Advent.
